Textbook for the Ecocene is a how-to guide for connecting to self, community and planet. What we pay attention to grows. To get us out of the people-dominant era called the Anthropocene, we are focusing on the ways resilience is growing and how indigenous communities have always been teaching stewardship. As we abandon institutions, economies and worldviews from the Anthropocene, we are creating our own textbooks and curricula that respond to the needs of our bodies, minds, habitats and spirits.
The Ecocene is an emergent geologic era where all humyns live in reciprocity with their ecosystems again. This textbook shares place-based medicine to collaborate with any humyn in generating the Ecocene starting exactly where they are at. It teaches us through practical exercises to try at home, Earth-centered theory and spirituality, and testimonios from community members who practice and create planetary liberation in their everyday lives. Johanna Iraheta, Bruje Fuego, Raquel Lemus, Patty Denisse, Jasmine Nyende, Queen Hollins and Olivia Chumacero shine examples of reciprocal living to us and share in the proceeds of this publication. The textbook, glossary and artwork inside document the creation of a DIY PhD for the Ecocene and hope to inspire more people to reclaim their educations, degrees and planetary destinies through creative and generative practices. We are activating the Ecocene right now, one step at a time.
